This chest was inspired by a John and Thomas Seymour original. The original has four drawers instead of the three found in this chest. The top and sides are from a single, wide board. The inlaid bandings (5 different bandings plus the cross-banding) were all made in the shop. The spade feet and serpentine profile of the front apron visually lift this chest, giving it a lighter look than most chests of drawers. The strong diagonal striping in the drawer fronts and numerous geometric bandings of strongly contrasting woods result in a strong visual impact. Cockbeading on the drawers and inlaid bone keyhole escutcheons add classy touches to this visually striking piece.
